Born in Belur, India in 1918, he trained and taught for about 80 years from 1935 until his death in 2014, and through his knowledge of the human mind and body, he was able to maximize the precise effects of yoga. He has researched, categorized, and organized his works, and has written many books.
In particular, ``Light on Yoga'' (Japanese translation: The Essence of Hatha Yoga: Hakuyosha Publishing), which is said to be the bible of yoga, has been translated and published in many countries around the world, and has been published many times. In 2004, he was selected by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India, is filled with yoga teachers from all over the world who continue to inspire them today.

He has also systematized the healing power of yoga for various illnesses and has received praise from medical experts. The unique tools developed by the master bring out the maximum effect of the poses, allowing everyone to receive the blessings of yoga. The master's lifelong pursuit of yoga is reflected in the perfection of his asanas.

Master Iyengar has developed techniques that can be used by all students of yoga. ``Study grounded experience'' and ``experience grounded research'' further developed this technique known as Iyengar Yoga. Master-designed wooden posing aids, belts, ropes, etc. can be used to achieve greater perfection in any asana.
